5 Tips to Keep Your Chicken Fresh for Longer
Fresh chicken deserves to stay fresh until you are ready to cook it. Here are five simple habits that make a real difference.
1. Refrigerate immediately
Move your delivery straight to the fridge — do not leave it on the counter, especially in warm weather.
2. Use within 1-2 days, or freeze
Raw chicken is best cooked within a day or two of purchase. If you are not cooking it soon, freeze it right away in an airtight bag.
3. Keep it separate
Store raw chicken on the bottom shelf of the fridge, away from vegetables and cooked food, to avoid any cross-contamination.
4. Thaw safely
Thaw frozen chicken in the fridge overnight rather than at room temperature.
5. Trust your senses
Fresh chicken should look pink and feel firm, with little to no odour. If anything seems off, do not cook it.
